Welcome to Shown Space

We all love stats for the stories they help us tell. Whether it's the arc of a season, the rhythm of a game, or the evolution of a player’s career.

But basic counting stats often miss the mark. They ignore crucial details like field position, game state, or whether a throw actually helped a team get closer to scoring. Not all completions are equal — and not all turnovers hurt the same.

Maybe you're a Frisbee fanatic on the hunt for the next data point to prove your theory on player impact. Or maybe you're a die-hard sports fan craving the Ultimate version of football’s EPA, one of basketball’s model-based plus-minus metrics, or baseball’s WAR.

Shown Space is our attempt to bring rigorous statistical and machine learning methods to Ultimate, measuring how every pass, reception, and block impacts scoring probability. By intrinsically accounting for key context like time pressure and resets, we can create novel metrics and fresh perspectives for player evaluation and beyond.

We're just getting started, and some of our favorite and most ambitious features are still on the way.

  • What You Can Explore Now

Players - Explore in-depth player profiles and leaderboards that highlight both traditional as well as novel metrics.

Game Center - Dive into each game with interactive tools like win probability graphs, game flow visualization, box scores, team stats, and full play-by-play breakdowns.

Terminology & Techniques - Learn how the metrics are constructed and why they matter.

Signature Features

  • Adjusted Expected Contribution (aEC):
Measures how much a player increases scoring probability with each touch. For example, a reset that gains no yards but improves field position? Still valuable. aEC captures these subtle contributions, with each unit representing an impact equivalent to a score.

  • Expected Completion Probability (xCP) & Completion Probability Over Expected (CPOE):
xCP measures the risk of a throw based on its difficulty while CPOE compares a player's actual completion rate to the expected rate, showing how much they exceed or fall short of expectations. Together, these metrics provide a comprehensive view of a thrower, showing both the riskiness of their shot selection and how well they execute them.

  • Player Tendencies:
Unique radar visuals show where players like to operate and how they shape possessions — providing insight into individual style, strategy, and role.

  • Win Probability Added (WPA):
Quantifies a player's impact by measuring how their actions shift the team's odds of winning, particulary in high-leverage moments.

  • Possession Visualizations:
A first-of-its-kind timeline that shows possession flow, to give a clear picture of the game without needing to watch the stream.
